The Thermo Scientific NanoDrop^TM 8000 Spectrophotometer can be used to measure protein concentration via the BCA (Bicinchoninic Acid) Protein Assay (click here for info on the BCA assay). This assay is often used for more dilute protein solutions and/or for proteins in the presence of components that also have significant UV (280 nm) absorbance. The resulting Cu-BCA chelate formed in the presence of protein is measured at its at its wavelength maximum of 562 nm. The BCA Assay requires that a standard curve be generated before unknown proteins can be measured.
